South Huron Community Theatre began in January of 2016 with the creation of our first Board, the adoption of our mission, and the establishment of our
by-laws which include: producing a minimum of two productions each year: one in late November/early December and one in early spring. One of these productions will have a primarily child/youth cast and the other a primarily adult cast.
We have successfully met that goal and to date we have mounted 8 successful shows. To date approximately 3600 people have been audience members for our shows, and approximately 440 people have had the opportunity to participate in our shows as performers and stage crew.
The Mission of the South Huron Community Theatre is to provide the South Huron community with the joyful experience of participating in and being an audience for fully-staged, live theatrical productions presented by volunteers from the community on an annual and self-sustaining basis
The show was a smash hit selling out all three performances to standing room only. with an exceptional cast of 75 of adults and children, a wonderful set, a talented orchestra and some exceptional performances, the show received rave reviews. Amanda Levencrown as Belle, Presley Johns as Cogsworth, Zev Levencrown as Lumiere, Sam Zehr as the Beast, Carla Mattucci as Mrs. Potts all turned in terrific performances. We had dancing feather dusters, maids, cutlery and more! The show proved once again that the South Huron Community Theatre provides first class entertainment. Directed by Deb Homuth, Music direction by Carolyn Regier.
We performed this classic comedy at the South Huron Art Centre to a delighted audience. Out five nuns (Kate Farwell, Andrea Hern, Janita Johns, Beckah Pfaff, Danielle Zehr) did an extraordinary job of their roles! Directed by Deb Homuth, Music direction by Carolyn Regier.
Our riff on the traditional tale of the Nutcracker, Clara, Peter and their Christmas Eve trip of wonders included singing, acting, and dancing to modern tunes, Christmas music, and Tchaikovsky's score from the Nutcracker ballet. The 65 person cast certainly put everyone in the Christmas spirit. Directed and choreographed by Deb Homuth, Music direction by Carolyn Regier.
This community cabaret-style show had 75 participants and was a delight of old, new, Christmasy, and blues singing and dancing along with some old fashioned comedy. Such an amazing display of local talent left the audience in the Christmas spirit. Directed and choreographed by Deb Homuth, Music direction by Carolyn Regier.
Our most ambitious undertaking to date, this wild and fun musical showcased the talents of area folks as cabaret girls, cowboys, New York sophisticates and small town dreamers in an amazing set built by Jeff Denotter, lights and sound by Exeter Music. The lead roles of Polly Baker and Bobby Child were beautifully performed by Janita Johns and Patrick Alber. The audience fell in love with jilted lover, Kate Farwell, overbearing mother Cheryl Masson, and the cowboys and cabaret girls won the audience's hearts. The orchestra under Carolyn /regier's direcrtion really outshone themselves this time with the challenging score. Directed and choreographed by Deb Homuth.
This perennial Christmas favourite got the South Huron treatment with an exceptional performance from Steve Van Breda as Elf. With singing and dancing and a great storyline, this was a very fun show! Directed and choreographed by Deb Homuth.
Directed by Kate Farwell, this hilarious, two-act play had all the elements of a rib-splitting comedy: false accusations, mistaken identities, and romance. for the first time we mounted the show at the Exeter Legion and the two-night run was met with great accolades from the community.
Directed by Patrick Alber and stage managed by Caresse Bedard, the show was held at the South Huron Recreation Centre to full houses who had a wonderful time watching the four couples love, get a little lost and love again. Who can forget Caresse's portrayal of the motorcycle ridin' bad boy!
Who can forget the exceptional breakout performance by Janita Johns as Ariel, and the outstanding costumes designed by Gail Little, Mhairi Walsh, and Janice Brock. The audience left the high school gym with love on their mind as they watched a sea world of dancing and singing creatures that were quite simply enchanting. Directed and choreographed by Deb Homuth with vocal coaching by Carolyn Regier.
Set in the 1950s in small town America, bad boy lead played by Sam Zehr came to town to capture the heart of female lead played by Caresse Bedard as the entire cast (and audience) rocked out to the music of Elvis. The amazing set designed by mike Brintnell recreated Main Street, Exeter in the 1950s and brought back many a nostalgic sigh to local citizens. Directed and choreographed by Deb Homuth, this show was performed in the gym at South Huron District High School.
With a large cast of children and some very key roles played b adults, our inaugural show surprised many in the audience with its exceptional costumes, and strong performances. What a beautiful and melodious Jasmine we had in Cosette Gelinas. But the show really and truly was stolen by the delightfully nasty performance of our very own Kate Farwell as the Genie.
